New Objective is awarded U.S. Patent on automated
orthogonal control system for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry
August 2004 - U.S. Patent 6,744,046 was issued to Gary Valaskovic
and Mike S. Lee for an automated orthogonal control system for
electrospray. The new system enables optimal spray controlled automatically
via computerized feedback versus operator control
as has been the traditional format for electrospray and nanospray
delivery.
Since the late 1980s, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry
(ESI-MS) has become an integral tool in the life sciences. ESI/MS-based
methods are now routinely applied throughout drug discovery and
development impacting both small molecule and large molecule
applications, such as proteomics. Founded by Gary Valaskovic in
1997 on PicoTip® technology, a revolutionary line
of emitters for LC-MS, New Objective has remained on the cutting
edge of nanobore chromatography and nanospray-based mass-spectrometry
through close communication with its customers, continuous innovation,
and dedication to quality. Valaskovic is the holder of 6 other
U.S. Patents.
"This patent affirms New Objective's leadership in ultra
high-sensitivity LC-MS," states Valaskovic. "This important technology
enables delivery of truly optimized performance in an automated
environment to an ever-widening market."
Currently, New Objective plans to offer licensing opportunities and seek
out collaborative partners to further technology development. Plans
are in place to incorporate first generation technology into New
Objective's highly-regarded line of PicoView® nanospray sources.

PicoView® 550 for Thermo LTQ™ and
LTQ FT™ Released
May, 2003 - New Objective, Inc., the industry leader
in nanospray technology for mass spectrometry, introduces the
latest addition to their PicoView® line of nanospray
sources for high-sensitivity mass spectrometry, the PicoView
550 Series for Thermo's newest mass spectrometers the LTQ® and
LTQ FT™.
The PicoView 500 Series represents a leap forward in user design with
a magnetic interlock stage system. This unique design allows modification
and changes to the emitter and column outside of the source housing. No
tools or screws required, the magnetic plate simply snaps back into exact
position with no further optimization necessary. An improved imaging system
provides clear imaging of the spray for assured, quick tuning. As with the
other models, the PicoView for the LCQ Deca XP/XP Plus comes equipped with
a translation stage, universal microinjection valve mount, mounting hardware
and fittings for interfacing nanobore LC-MS. An assortment of PicoTip emitters,
including a PicoFrit® column, is included with the PicoView
system.

Patent for New Objective
August 2002 - New Objective, Inc. has
been awarded U.S. Patent number 6,395,183,
for the development of multi-stage packing
methods that are now used in the production
of PicoFrit® and IntegraFrit columns.
This novel approach to nanobore column fabrication
ensures a high quality, economical product.
The R & D effort that led to this development
is part of New Objective's commitment to product
innovation in LC-MS. New
Coating Now in Use
May 2002 - A novel Platinum/SiO multilayered
coating, (U.S. Patent 5,788,166) is now in
use for online SilicaTip emitters. This
new coating has excellent adhesion properties
with fused silica and is capable of operating
even after multiple electrical discharges.
SilicaTip emitters are able to perform electrospray
for hundreds of hours of continuous operation
(over 800 hours with a MeOH/Water/Acetic Acid
mobile phase) without a loss of coating. All
SilicaTips, with our standard coating, are
being shipped with this new coating, designated
by -CE- in the stock number. There is no additional
expense to the consumer for the improved coating.
For more information on the new coating download the technical abstract from
the ASMS 2002 poster presentation New
Chemistries for Sample Trap
April 2002 - New Objective offers new
chemistries and sizes for the Upchurch Scientific® capillary
sample trap. IntegraFrit trap inserts
are nanobore columns that load into the trap
cartridge assembly. The selection of available
packing materials is optimized for proteomics
and can be used in injection loops for sample
prep, as nanobore guard columns or for rapid
sample analysis. The IntegraFrit trap insert
is a 2.5 cm fused-silica column with an outer
diameter of 360 µm and inner diameter
of either 75 or 100 µm. The ultra-low
volume, (less than 2 nL), IntegraFrit is internal
to the column, and reduces tailing caused by
extra-column frits. For more information, including
available sizes and chemistries, visit the IntegraFrit
Trap Insert section, or email us
at sales@newobjective.com.
Upchurch Scientific is a registered trademark
of Upchurch Scientific. Biphasic
PicoFrit® Columns Available
April 2002 - Biphasic PicoFrit® columns
now commercially available. By combining high-quality
strong cation exchange material with ProteoPep C18
for peptide analysis, researches can now analyze
complex protein digests in a single run. Adapting
the robust PicoFrit format to shotgun digests
(Washburn, M.P., D. Wolters and J.R. Yates, Nature
Biotechnology 19, (2001):242:247.) complex
mixture analysis can now be routine. PicoFrit
columns combine emitter and column to eliminate
post-column losses and reduce tip clogging
while providing high-resolution separations. Prepacked
IntegraFrit Columns Available
January 2002 - Prepacked IntegraFrit columns
for high-sensitivity nanobore LC now available
in a selection of sizes and packing materials.
IntegraFrit columns have an internal frit,
which virtually eliminates tailing caused by
extra-column frits. Adding very little back-pressure,
the internal frit is free of adhesives, binders
and polymers and is compatible with ESI-MS,
MALDI and biomolecule analysis. Available packed
with ProteoPep for peptide analysis or
high-performance strong cation exchange material.
Short IntegraFrit columns are effective for
sample trapping and desalting procedures while
longer columns are designed for nanobore LC.
New Objective can custom pack user-supplied
materials. PicoView® 400

easier by enabling rapid column or emitter
replacement. Building on the tradition of innovation
and functionality, the latest PicoView includes
the same modular design and flexibility of
experimental set-up as the PicoView models
for Thermo Finnigan, Micromass, Bruker and
Agilent instruments. As with the other models,
the PicoView for ABI comes equipped with a
high-resolution imaging system, translation
stage, microinjection valve, mounting hardware
and fittings for interfacing nanobore LC-MS.
An assortment of PicoTip emitters, including
a PicoFrit® column, is included
with the PicoView system. QSTAR is a trademark
of Applera Corporation or its subsidiaries
in the U.S. and certain other countries. Stock
