"The PicoView 400 system provided by New Objective, Inc. has greatly facilitated our use of the QSTAR, a hybrid high-resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer. Before we had the PV400, we had experienced considerable difficulty in tuning the spray in nano-LC mode, so our QSTAR was primarily used in nanospray mode. However, as in other proteomics labs, most of our biological samples are too complex to be analyzed by nanospray only.

"The PV-400 system was specifically designed for online nanospray with the QSTAR. It allows us to visualize the spray clearly and thus readily obtain optimum tip position for stable and maximum ionization. Plus, it's easy to install and remove so that we can switch readily between offline nanospray modes. With the PV400 system, we are now able to routinely use the QSTAR for either on- or offline multi-dimensional LC-MS analysis to elucidate complex peptide/protein mixtures."
