Handling Emitters

For optimal use and longevity, remove emitters from their new package as indicated below. Always take proper safety precautions when handling fused-silica and glass emitters. Proper eye protection and gloves are always recommended.

Opening new tip package Open Lid
Grasp the lid on by sides and pull open. Do not open with fingertips on the top of the box. Fingers may come into contact with emitter tips, causing tip damage.

Removing coated glass emitters using forceps

Removing Glass Emitters
Using the forceps provided with each PicoTip order, grasp the shaft of the emitter approximately mid-way between the holding bar and the emitter tip. Gently pull the emitter directly up from the holding bar until it is clear.

Do not pull emitter towards you, as this will cause the tip to break.

Removing uncoated SilicaTips from new package   Removing Silica Emitters
Using the forceps provided with each PicoTip order, grasp the shaft of the emitter approximately mid-way between the holding bar and the emitter tip. Gently pull the emitter directly up from the holding bar until it is clear.

Avoid bending emitter towards you. Although polyimide-coated fused-silica is pliable, should you lose contact with the emitter it may snap back, causing damage to the tip.
